I live near Coventry, Warwickshire, UK I am 50 something a widower with two children, I work as a gas maintenance supervisor, not the gas you put into your tank but the gas that  does the cooking and heating !. Martin and I have had some great trips and I believe we have the same attitude when we travel. We try to get of the beaten tracks and just meander through the countries. We both like a bit of comfort so most of the time it's stopping in hotel's, we have never taken a tent so that has not been an option . Our  humour is on the dark side and we know when to give each other space, as with all trips it can sometimes get just to much, so we can give  a little space. It's never been a problem as riding all day your on own anyhow and we don't have bike to bike communication.

The Motorcycles i own  are a Laverda 750s, a Honda900fza, Triumph Trophy 900, Triumph 995rs and my Adventure bike is the BMW1200gs Out of all these bikes i think i love the Triumph RS best a beautifull engine that just sounds great draging it out of corners  this bike has taken me all over Europe and never gave me any trouble, the only hick up besides Martin running into the back of me was at the top of Stelvio pass , having just climbed the mountain from the Austrian side at a good gallop it lost a lot of coolant when we stopped for a breather on the summit. The BMW GS is a beast , but a very capable beast and it has took me to places in Libya Tunisia and Morroco that i thought no motorcycle that size could ever go . I must admit  i did take advantage of the BMW off road school to get a few hints in riding something that size off road, the only experiance i have is on 250 and 400cc bikes so it was well worth it .

We aim at going away somewhere, do a bit of research what we would like to see and how long. That's usually about as much planning as we do, then each evening while we have a drink we look at a map and find out where we are going again modern stuff like sat nav's we don't possess .  Martin has a good brain for navigating through town’s and cities and to be honest some of them freak me out so I just sit on his tail and follow him round in circles !! . All the places we have been to I don’t think I dislike any of them, Estonia was a nice surprise outside of the capital people are friendly and helpful the food is good and cheap. The roads however are boring long straight and  and low speed limits with lot’s of cop’s hiding with radar guns, but as in most countries the local’s and opposing traffic do try to warn you and as yet we have not had the pleasure of having to deal with a speeding fine.

My favourite place is northern Spain, the mountain roads are superb and the scenery to die for. The food is great and the the friendliest people of the whole of Europe. A place to stay is the Parador de Cervera de Pisuerga, been there twice now and it never fails to take my breath , get up at sunrise and watch the sun come above the mountains and light up the morning mist in the valley below   wow .

Our travel's have given us an appetite for more, the great thing about motorcycle touring is you get to feel and smell a country unlike when you fly in and walk around a city, on a bike you get out and find places and people that otherwise would be lost, and to be honest the only trouble we have had traveling by motorbikes is here in the UK. Everywhere else they welcome you even to the degree of having our luggage from the bikes taken to our rooms. Can't remember where that was somewhere in central Spain, we arrived in a monsoon and when we booked in the bell hop went out and took our luggage up ! If that had been the UK we would have been told that they were full up.

I think it was Martin's wife one night over a few drinks that said that we should go off round the world , we had said that Charley and Ewan were lucky to get the chance to do that, so gradually we thought yeah why not. It won't be as easy to get the trip organised as those two had a possey for them to do that but hell we can do it and so we shall .

My fears and doubts are, what am i going to do when I get back, I have a good job now but when I am back  I don't know. My children will they be ok without me, there old enough but as any parent knows the hand is always out. Failing to complete the trip, that would be devestating, I don't like failing at anything. Last but not least what would happen if we pushed to hard and something happened to one of us ! Only one comes back and says great trip up until that ....   well can't let thoughts like that get to the fore else everything would be impossible.

Take care have fun and smile Mark
